Located in Clover Virginia, Chef Camp is situated on 520 acres of picturesque scenic rolling hills and forested woodlands, complete with 17 acre lake for swimming and fishing, swimming pool, bike trails, sports fields, and several miles of river frontage on the Staunton river.
Lake & Pool: Chef campers swim once a day during camp. Swimming activities take place in both our lake and swimming pool! Lake Harvey features fun lake activities, including boats, bellyaks, the Aqua Sleds, and The Blob!
Program Areas: In addition to the chef camp teaching facilities, the camp has a variety of program areas for campers to enjoy when they are not in the kitchen, including soccer fields, basketball courts, paved general sports courts for activities like floor hockey, giant slip-n-slide, and lots of open space to play!
Pine Village & Valley Village Cabins Pine & Valley - our “classic” camper cabins - are fully air-conditioned. Full bathrooms, with individual private shower stalls & changing areas, are inside each cabin – no walking to an outside shower house required! Beds are standard camp sized bunk beds.
Summer Camp Health Center Our first aid station for summer campers is staffed 24/7 with qualified medical personnel. Facilities are air conditioned, and include a treatment room, full bathroom, overnight sleeping rooms for campers who may become ill while attending, which are adjacent to the sleeping quarters for the medical staff. During the school year, the private sleeping rooms may be used for adult chaperones supervising youth who are staying in the oak cabin - rooms, as the health center is located in the same building.
Dining Hall Fully air conditioned and heated for year round use, the dining hall is a central feature of the facilities, and provides a great space for eating or meeting. Amenities include a full commercial kitchen with all new top of the line appliances, handicapped accessible restrooms, and dining/meeting space for 150 persons (depending on configuration). An additional room, with working fireplace, is adjacent to the main dining room, so groups can divide the space for meetings, parties, etc. Additionally, an expansive deck overlooking the rolling hills and woods makes a great location for outdoor eating or gathering.
Lakeview Village Cottages Newly constructed in 2013, these waterfront cottages are for family, adult, and corporate group users. Each cottage is similar to a hotel room complete with a full bathroom, (including separate private toilet room), kitchenette with mini-fridge and microwave, and large deck for sitting and relaxing at the end of the day - overlooking the 17 acre lake.
Kart Barn Newly constructed with the tracks in 2013, the Kart Barn serves as “driving central” for Camp Motorsport's driving instructional program activities. Air-conditioned and heated for year-round use, facilities include two classrooms, restrooms, drinking fountains, a waiting room/registration area, and a large multi-purpose room with high vaulted ceilings which can serve as a meeting space, additional classroom space, or indoor space for inclement weather. The main classroom has a flat screen TV and full-wall chalkboard wall for instructional use. Outside includes fully covered pit areas on both sides of the building, so drivers can be loaded/unloaded in the shade – rather than having to sit in the hot sun waiting to drive! Each covered pit area also includes a waiting area with seating, so drivers waiting their turn have a safe designated area to wait in the shade as well. Ample parking is available, and a paved kart load in/load out lane is provided on each side of the track directly to the pit lane.
HISTORY: Once a farm for tobacco and cattle, the property has operated as some type of camp program since the 1950's when it served as a dude ranch, followed by Triple R Ranch Camp, a private all-girls equestrian camp which operated in the late 1950's-early 1960's. Through the late 60's to mid-70's the property operated under various owners, until 1978 when it re-opened as Camp Staunton Meadows, a traditional co-ed resident camp, which operated for 30 years until closing in 2007. The property sat shuttered for 6 years until the purchase by Camp Motorsport in 2012. Moving and renovations began in September of 2012, and major construction began in January of 2013. Summer 2013 marked Camp Motorsport's first operating season at the new property.
Camp Motorsport has operated since 2007, including being a fully ACA accredited camp since its start. The camp began as a seasonal rental user at VIRginia International Raceway in 2007. After a few summers of operating at VIR, the camp started to outgrow the infrastructure available at the racetrack, and began searching for a new location in the fall of 2010. After an exhaustive search of potential properties ranging from New York through North Carolina, the purchase offer was made on the property in October 2011, and the sale closed in July of 2012.
In 2014, Camp Motorsport will expand its operation to include a sibling program- Chef Camp. Chef Camp wil first open as a year-round program for both adults and youth for various culinary programs. The summer camp will open in summer 2015.
